A place for both order and chaos

Shelves for the naturally orderly or the deliberately disorderly

Our shelf design began with the primitive, vernacular kitchen rack. The kind used for centuries to store candles, spices and spoons.

We deconstructed the components and blew them up in scale, so the design could work in any configuration – from a single shelf to a unit for an entire wall, and anything in between. 

To work in larger spaces or to carry heavy collections, we make the same design but 50% bigger – at this scale the shelves become as architectural as they are decorative.

Both scales of shelving can be made to any size and shape, so nowhere in the house is off limits – the living room wall, high up in a hallway, a bedroom corner or where it all began – on the kitchen wall.

From whimsy to defiance, there are five distinct profiles to choose from - each a motif borrowed from a major design era; primitive ‘hollow’ whose clean lines feel contemporary, romantic 'cusp' a spiritual wave to towering gothic, classical 'corbel' embodying the power of The Renaissance, angular 'quirk' encapsulating the confidence of Art Deco, and Post-Modern 'beak' symbolic of late 20th century subversion.

We can assemble your shelves with matching or mixed bracket profiles. Repeat one bracket profile from top to bottom, side to side and the shelves are naturally orderly. Mix the profiles and they become deliberately disorderly, and possibly most 'now'.

From the open pricing to the opportunity to play, we are proud of these shelves, because believe it or not we are democratic at heart – we really do want everyone to be able to enjoy our pieces – joy being the operative word!

The orderly shelves

Bracket profiles may be mixed and matched while shelf lengths are completely customisable. The shelves are constructed in either oiled sycamore, elm, ash, chestnut or our beautiful collection of oak finishes. They can also be hand-painted.
