A Martello dining table in American black cherry
Originally created for Nix Harding's sustainability themed 'Legacy Lounge' at London's Decorex 2019 (last image below), this cherrywood table has since been at the centre of our studio life.
We chose American black cherry before we even had a design, because this hardwood species is known to regenerate vigorously after forest fires – it keeps a huge reservoir of dormant seed in the forest floor, and loves the unshaded conditions created by a clearance.
Given the American cherry, we thought it would be lovely to use an American design as inspiration, so we chose a form reminiscent of a New England hutch table to show off the cherry, which starts out pale and develops this fabulous colour.
We loved the table so much that we made it part of our made to measure collection. We took the name 'Martello' from an amazing Landmark Trust property on the east coast of England that has a fantastic and very similar table.
