The joys of lamplight

The Form Lamps have been coming together little by little for months, possibly years, if you consider the influence of the antique geometric forms that Matthew has bought and sold throughout his time as an antique dealer. Direct influences aside, you only need to cast an eye across our made-to-measure collection to see Matthew's love of simple shapes and grand scale!

Both the design and construction have been a study in precision, and that includes the work between creative development lead, Greg and lampshade maker Eloise Scotland, whose cross-country correspondence has resulted in four perfectly proportioned and hand-stitched lampshades. It's only been a week or so since the lamps found their homes at 19 St George's Square, and now they are not just part of the furniture, but part of the architecture.

Their sculptural forms provide pleasing contrasts with the panels, arches and wonky corners of our high-ceilinged reception rooms. I’ve always loved how the residents of Amsterdam’s canal-side houses light their rooms in the evening. There’s something generous about that warm glow spilling onto the street. There’s a similar joy here at 19 St George’s Square, knowing that our own passersby enjoy the soft light from the windows. And passersby aside, I love seeing these beautiful natural materials lit up every evening.

A huge thank you to our whole team and to Eloise for bringing these lamps to life. They make me very happy.

Camilla
